What the official site doesn't tell you
PickRV editor's field notes
The Nebraska Game & Parks site advertises Mahoney as 'the resort park' but doesn't tell you that during the May-September peak window, the campground books to 95% capacity 90 days out — and weekends sell out 6+ months in advance. The hidden hack: the park reserves 12 'just-arrived' sites that don't appear on ReserveAmerica; if you call the office at 7am the day-of, you can get one. Second non-obvious fact: the Schramm SRA boondock loop 8 miles south is operated by the same Game & Parks system and uses the same park entry permit — you can dispersed-camp Friday night at Schramm and shift to your reserved Mahoney site Saturday morning, no double permit fee. Third: the indoor water park is officially 'campers only' weekday mornings (8-11am) — most day visitors don't know this and arrive at noon, when peak crowds form.
