A chili world championship in the Chihuahuan Desert — the campout IS the event. Class A · Class B · Class C — rent the rig you drive.
The ranch is a primitive desert campout: no hookups, no water, no shade beyond what you carry. Arrive with full fresh tanks, empty holding tanks and enough fuel for the week, because Study Butte carries limited groceries and the nearest full resupply is Alpine, eighty miles north.
If you want a pedestal before or after the cookoff, Rio Grande Village inside Big Bend has full hookups on twenty-five concession sites and primitive space on a hundred more behind a forty-foot limit, and Lost Alaskan in Alpine runs full hookups to fifty. Chisos Basin sits up switchbacks with a short posted rig limit, so read it before committing. November nights drop into the forties.
