Memorial Day through Labor Day the population multiplies past 60,000 and the city famously hosts the Doo Wop Preservation League's mid-century motel district plus a 38-block free beach (one of the widest Atlantic beaches on the East Coast — the beach itself has been growing east through sediment accretion for decades).
RV planning is dominated by the fact that Wildwood and the adjacent Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood prohibit RV street parking under all three municipal codes. The dominant RV anchor for the Wildwoods is Belleplain State Forest (NJ State Parks, 20 mi north in Woodbine), with 169 sites mixing electric and primitive in a pinelands setting on Lake Nummy. Reservations open 11 months ahead through the NJ State Parks portal.
Beachcomber Camping Resort (private, 6 mi west in Cape May Court House) is the closest commercial RV park with full hookups. The Doo Wop motel district along Atlantic Ave is mid-century preservation worth a walk. Cape May (8 mi south) is the historic Victorian-era town with its own SP camping at Cape May SP (limited RV). Propane: AmeriGas (Cape May Court House). Diesel: Wawa truck lane (Court House) and Royal Farms (Rio Grande). Best season is mid-June and September. Avoid July 4 week and Labor Day.
When to come
Best: Mid-June (pre-peak) and September (post-Labor Day, water still 65-70F) — moderate crowd density and ordinance friction.
Skip: July 4 week and Labor Day weekend — saturation + active tow + GSP backups.
Your first hour in Wildwood
Before you leave the lot
- Reserve Belleplain SF 11 months out for any July or August weekend.
- Top off diesel at Wawa Court House before barrier-island transit.
- Top off propane at AmeriGas Cape May Court House.
- Pre-book any Kite Festival or July 4 stay 11+ months ahead.
Before you park overnight
- Read Wildwood + WW Crest + N Wildwood ordinances — no in-town overnight street.

- Stage tank dump at Belleplain or Beachcomber before any 3-night stay.
