Parking ordinances that bite RVs
No house car, camper, mobile home, house-type trailer, boat trailer, semi-trailer or pole trailer whose gross weight exceeds 2,000 lb may be parked on any street, alley or public right-of-way in Cape May between 12:00 midnight and 6:00 a.m. on any day.

What this means for you: This is a true overnight ban with a very low 2,000 lb trigger, so every rented RV is caught. The window is midnight to 6 a.m., which means an evening on the Washington Street Mall is fine but sleeping in the rig at the curb is not. Be at your campground before midnight.
No house car, camper, motor home, house-type trailer or boat trailer may be parked on Beach Avenue, or within one block on any street intersecting Beach Avenue, at any time.

What this means for you: The entire beachfront strip plus a one-block buffer is closed to RVs 24 hours a day, not just overnight. Do not plan to unload beach gear from the rig anywhere near Beach Avenue — drop passengers from a car instead.
No boat trailer, with or without a boat, may be parked on any street for longer than 24 hours.

Parking any trailer or house car for use as living quarters anywhere within the City of Cape May is unlawful.

What this means for you: Sleeping in the rig is prohibited citywide — including on private property, a friend's driveway, or a business lot. Cape May's definition of 'trailer or house car' expressly covers self-propelled vehicles built for occupancy, so motorhomes are included.
