The historic district restricts RV parking through Telluride Municipal Code Sec. 7-5 and the practical legal options for RV stays inside town limits reduce to Telluride Town Park Campground (43 sites, electric hookups on some, walk-to-downtown location, runs Memorial Day through October weather permitting).

Outside town, USFS Sunshine Campground (8 mi southwest off CO-145) is the canonical first-come-first-served alternative — 14 sites, no hookups, 25-ft rig max. Matterhorn Campground (15 mi south) adds 28 sites with similar profile. The town's festival calendar — Bluegrass (June), Film Fest (Labor Day), Blues & Brews (mid-September), Mountainfilm (Memorial Day weekend), Jazz Fest (August), Hot Air Balloon (early June) — drives demand that fills Town Park 11 months out.

San Miguel County roads outside town, including Last Dollar Road and Black Bear Pass, are NOT RV-passable; Black Bear is a 4x4-only one-way descent with switchbacks measured in low-double-digit feet. Lizard Head Pass (10,222 ft, on CO-145 south) is the standard approach from Cortez/Dolores; in winter it's chain-controlled and the Town of Telluride publishes road status. Propane and diesel are notably absent inside Telluride proper — closest reliable options are Ridgway (33 mi north) and Cortez (75 mi southwest). Best season is mid-June through September — peak summer for festivals, October for fall color (limited window), April-May is mud season.
