The planning anchors are Gull Point State Park (on West Okoboji, 60 sites with electric, walking distance to the lake's signature blue water) and Pikes Point State Park (smaller, more intimate). Iowa State Parks reservations open 3 months ahead through the Iowa DNR portal (shorter than most states — set a calendar alarm).

Arnolds Park (the amusement-park complex on West Okoboji) is the cultural anchor with a 1930s wooden roller coaster and the Iowa Rock 'n Roll Music Association Museum. Dickinson County zoning under Ordinance 35 prohibits dispersed lakeshore camping outside designated parks. The town of Okoboji and surrounding Milford / Arnolds Park enforce on-street RV ordinances aggressively in summer. Propane: AmeriGas Spirit Lake (5 mi north).

Diesel: Casey's Spirit Lake and Sioux City's Pilot/Flying J Travel Center (75 mi south on I-29). Best season is mid-June through August. Iowa DNR enforces 14-day stay limit at state parks.
