Oklahoma City has its own arrival logistics. Lake Thunderbird State Park handles both the first night and the free dump station. One street-parking ordinance applies to RVs here — cited in full in the arrival guide.
Dump stations & water
- Lake Thunderbird State Park — free, potable water
Camp the first night
- Lake Thunderbird State Park · 18 mi out · Electric on 200+ sites; water at host station

The Oklahoma City window to avoid
July through August — heat index 100-110 F and tornado-warning windows.
What that mistake costs
NWS Norman issues tornado warnings 25+ days per year; have a state-park shelter plan
Day one, after you pick the rig up
- Top off propane at U-Haul of Oklahoma City, 2400 W Reno Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73107, on arrival day if tanks read below 30%.
- Drive direct to Lake Thunderbird State Park — OKC Code Sec. 32-156 restricts overnight on-street parking in residential zones.
- Verify scenic-drive open status on Wichita Mountains Scenic Byway (some seasonal closures).
