Renting an RV in Hartford: what to know before pickup
Hartford has its own arrival logistics. Markham Meadows Campground handles both the first night and the dump station. One street-parking ordinance applies to RVs here — cited in full in the arrival guide.
Street parking reality
A seven-hour overnight window, and the definition is imported from state law rather than a local length or weight threshold, so it covers the full range of recreational vehicles. Towing is explicit, not discretionary…

Skip the classic mistake

The Hartford window to avoid
January and February — winter storm activity closes most regional campgrounds.
What that mistake costs
5-ton GVWR limit triggers tow plus $150 fine within 4 hours of posted cutoff
Day one, after you pick the rig up
- Top off propane at U-Haul of Hartford, 175 Murphy Rd, Hartford, CT 06114, on arrival day if tanks read below 30%.
- Drive direct to Markham Meadows Campground — Hartford Code Sec. 22-128 restricts overnight on-street parking in residential zones.
- Verify scenic-drive open status on Connecticut River Scenic Byway (some seasonal closures).
