Renting an RV in Juneau: what to know before pickup
Juneau has its own arrival logistics. The first night usually means Mendenhall Lake Campground (Tongass NF), and tanks empty at Auke Bay RV Park Dump. 3 street-parking ordinances apply to RVs here — each cited in the arrival guide.
Street parking reality
Move every 72 hours or invite a $50 citation plus tow risk. Egan Drive shoulders are not legal RV parking despite the open space.

Dump stations & water
- Auke Bay RV Park Dump — $15, potable water
- Mendenhall Glacier RV Park Dump — $15, potable water
- Savikko Park RV Dump (Douglas) — free, potable water
Camp the first night
- Mendenhall Lake Campground (Tongass NF) · 14 mi out · No hookups; vault toilets; direct view of Mendenhall Glacier face from select sites
- Auke Bay RV Park · 11 mi out · Full hookup (W/E/S, 30/50 amp); 5 min from AMHS Auke Bay Ferry Terminal
- Mendenhall Glacier RV Park · 9 mi out · Full hookup; long-stay rates; 4 mi to glacier visitor center
Skip the classic mistake
Assuming an AMHS reservation guarantees same-day onward driving — Juneau-to-Skagway and Juneau-to-Haines ferry timing can leave a rig at the AMHS terminal at 1 a.m. with no in-town RV park staffed for late arrival.
Best window: May 15 through September 15: 55-68 F highs, all USFS campgrounds open, AMHS full schedule…
