Lake Placid is a small mountain village absorbing a full-distance triathlon, which means the roads you'd tow on are the roads athletes race on. The bike course uses the highways through Keene and Wilmington, and closures start early on race morning — position the trailer at your campground the day before and plan not to move it until the course reopens in the evening. Village streets are tight for anything long; park outside and walk or shuttle in.
The state campgrounds along the Ausable River near Wilmington Notch put you a short drive from the course, and July nights in the high peaks run cool enough that the furnace still earns its place. Spectating from camp works well on the Wilmington side, where the course passes close by. The race's athlete guide publishes exact closure maps each year — build the weekend around it.
