Whitefish Lake State Park (1 mi northwest of downtown) is the in-town camping play with 25 sites, partial hookups, on the lake. Outside town the spectrum extends through KOA Whitefish (8 mi south), Glacier Meadow RV Park (6 mi west), and into Glacier NP itself where Apgar, Fish Creek, and the more remote campgrounds run on the NPS Recreation.gov reservation system.

Apgar Campground has the highest RV capacity (194 sites, no hookups, max 40 ft); Fish Creek (180 sites, no hookups, max 35 ft) requires advance booking. Going-to-the-Sun Road has a posted 21-foot vehicle length restriction east of Avalanche Creek and a 8-foot width restriction; this is non-negotiable and Class A larger than 21 ft cannot drive the alpine sections. Plan to drop trailer or park at Lake McDonald Lodge and shuttle.

Whitefish city code (Whitefish City Code Chapter 14) restricts overnight RV street parking in residential zones. Big Mountain (Whitefish Mountain Resort) winter ski operations drive the December-March demand spike; summer brings Glacier-related saturation in July-August. Propane and diesel cluster at Pilot/Flying J in Kalispell (15 mi south) for full big-rig service; Maverik in Whitefish for retail RV propane. Best season is mid-June through mid-September for Glacier; June can still have closed Going-to-the-Sun Rd alpine sections. Check NPS road-status before any Glacier approach.
